UCLA hampered by preseason injuries (AP)

Five UCLA basketball players have been sidelined by injuries during preseason practice. Guard Jerime Anderson (groin), forward James Keefe (shoulder), guard Malcolm Lee (concussion), forward Brendan Lane (ankle) and forward Mike Moser (back) are all injured, the school said Monday. Anderson isn't expected to return to practice this week.

Stanford freshman Brown to miss season (AP)

Stanford freshman Andy Brown will miss the season with a left knee injury. Brown, a 6-foot-8 forward, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the Cardinal's practice Saturday, the school said Monday. This is the second time in 10 months Brown has torn the ACL in his left knee. He tore it in January, cutting short his senior season at Mater Dei High School.

Injured Iowa F Archie out 4-7 weeks (AP)

Iowa forward Devon Archie could miss the start of the season after injuring his right shoulder in practice. Hawkeyes coach Todd Lickliter says Archie was hurt Saturday and is expected to be sidelined for four to seven weeks. Archie is a junior college transfer from Vincennes Community College in Indiana.

Kansas officials are still trying to figure out what happened during a series of altercations between members of the football and basketball teams this week. They know there were at least two fights and Tyshawn Taylor, a sophomore guard on the basketball team, injured his thumb. Beyond that, no one's exactly sure what happened or how it escalated to the point of punches being thrown.
