2009 NFL Draft Round by Round

Round 1    Round 2      Round 3       Round 4      Round 5     Round 6     Round 7

As always with the NFL draft there is always plenty of scrutiny and speculation, and the 09’ was no exception. The top pick was a forgone conclusion but plenty of movement and the perpetual search for the Tom Bradyish ‘diamond in the rough’ pick kept things more than intriguing. The big move was the Jets trading up, and rolling the dice on Mark Sanchez. The question here is, with all of the first round QB bust of the past, why go after a QB whose own college coach said he wasn’t ready? “Mangenius” may have lost his “street cred” after the Favre bust and playoff exit last year while Pennington went on to league accolades, but this will surely seal his fate if the kid from South Central can’t answer the call. Gotta stay in the AFC and emphasize what  mess Al “Guido” Davis has made of the Raiders. Please see the previous comments about diamonds in the rough because Darrius Heyward-Bey, while being talented, on paper by people MUCH smarter than ol’ man Al have him as the third or fourth best receiver in the draft, but even if they’re wrong the Raiders could have waited until later to prove their conviction. They are coming dangerously close to the LA Clippers definition of how NOT to run a franchise. In the NFC, the CaBoys’ went to the cupboard and found nothing there but special team players and kickers (they already have an all-pro). By the way, how does New England manage to get 10-12 picks in every draft? If any of the five defensive players pan out they may re-allocate the Peppers’ money and grab that speed rusher in the free agent market. Lastly, call it in the air on that 47million dollar signing bonus. The good news if the Lions go 3-13 Stafford has tripled their wins from a year ago and is a hero. We’ll see if there is a parade for him three years in or if he’s sharing a tub with teen age co-eds with Matt Leinhart. There’s plenty more to discuss and four months to do it. See each draft round here and talk about them in the NFL team chat rooms.
