Most of the Capitals' core group has been together for years, and they not only had more playoff experience but had 17 players who had played in a Game 7. The Islanders had seven players, two who did not play Monday

The D was together up until game 4. The only one missing was Hamonic and I think it's a little silly to blame a series loss on one D man. 3 is important but if you can't win when one player goes down then you just aren't built for the long haul. The blown 2 goal lead in game 2 was the killer.

Halak matched Holtby. Each had an off game and each was excellent otherwise. Much was made of the Isles lack of experience, but that wasn't really a factor at all. This was a close series between two closely matched teams and the lack of PP production for the Isles was critical. Even one PP goal in Game 4 gives them a 3-1 lead. Adding Dal Colle and Pulock from the pipeline may be the answer but the Isles need more scoring depth.

The Islanders lost the series because they couldn't hold a lead. If they come back home 2-0 they win the series in a maximum of 5 games. They blew a third period lead (2 goals) with 10 minutes left in game 2. That's why they lost the series. Injuries on D is an excuse. 3 was the only one out. Viz got hurt in game 4 and CDH is better in the press box then he is on the ice.

Lack of offense, lack of playoff experience, and the powerless-play are the three things the Islanders will adjust moving forward. That last power play with 3 minutes left the Islanders didn't even take a shot. They can't win if they only take 11 shots on goal all game. The only thing the Islanders can't control is injuries, which unfortunately they were burdened with since All-Star break when Okposo had retina surgery.
